RECOMMENDED INVESTIGATIONS

Blood tests

In early pregnancy we recommend completing...

CBC, random blood sugar, ABO typing, Rh typing, urine culture, HBsAg, VDRL, HIV-1/2, and rubella status.  Consider TSH, varicella status, parvovirus B19, toxoplasmosis status, and sickle cell status in selected patients.

Ultrasound imaging

We recommend a first trimester US for dating as well as an anatomy scan around 20 weeks gestation.

Genetic screening

We recommend discussing screening with all pregnant women and proceeding as per their preference.  All patients are candidates for enhanced first trimester screening (eFTS) - involving a blood test and US between 11 and 14 weeks gestation.  Patients may qualify or decide to complete non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT).
